The network marketing industry has evolved from its old school MLM roots. This evolution allows us to look at and look back what still is and what was the beginning and remaining start to free enterprise for so many people.

I am quit bias when I look at MLM. To me the business models are all similar and for the most part the products are too. Lotions, potions and telecom.

The business models encompass pitching friends and family, cold calling leads, prospecting friends and stranger, buying lists of lead name, chasing people, hosting meetings: at your home, in strangers homes, in coffee shops or hotel banquet halls. The business model is what is going to take your time, energy and make you money. Thus the model does include leverage in that you do make money off your team’s efforts but will get to that. The MLM model I see as very tired. It is you that is physically talking in person to hundreds and thousands of people to find the diamonds in the rough. There is no system for sifting and sorting out the majority of the weeds that are in the field.

The products from MLM companies are what keep people from seeing the poor business model. People get so emotionally caught up on how beneficial this product is or that product is regardless where in the market place it classifies. It causes them to feel so strongly tied to a certain company regardless of the nature that this business model is won by people who find top distributors, not shoppers.

The MLM Price Point of entry is generally quite low causing a lot of excitement from people wanting to join. I mean if it only costs $300 than everybody can afford it, right? The thing is that just because a “Business” has a low entry price point does not mean everybody wants to be in business. Because this price is so low people have even used it in their marketing in the worst way possible buy bringing it up as a selling feature.

These same people when they get discouraged after a few months of minimal effort and little results quite, blaming their upline, the company, even calling it a scam and then jumping to the next new thing that catches there eye. When talking to network marketers it is hard to find ones that have only been with one company, some have jumped between 4 or 5 if not more. If they had of stayed put they would have come out the other end more successful as longevity is always king.

Besides the business model and people in general the other reason for the high amount of attrition is the compensation plan, massive levels of residual income make it hard for the new person to get going and because the products and business are so inexpensive to begin with their obviously cannot be a large commission paid out. It is important to realise that you do not want to work with everybody, that most people are not entrepreneurial minded. Meaning they do not have the drive determination, motivation that you might which is certainly required to be successful in any home business.

It honestly scares me when people tell me that their MLM business: does not have an application process, is not marketed online for the most part and costs less than $2K to start and position at the top. Do you want to be in business with bottom feeders or the biggest thinkers in the industry? As we all know your net worth is dictated by your network!
